Giappo

Main Open · 10:00-22:00 $$$$

Cold rice over panini: Giappo is TRN’s airside sushi stop

Past security in T1’s main boarding area, Giappo runs 10:00–22:00 and fills the “I don’t want more pasta” niche with pre-made sushi and bento trays. It’s the only dedicated sushi brand airside at Turin Airport, so if you want seaweed and rice instead of another €6 focaccia, this is where you end up.

Everything sits ready in a refrigerated case: maki assortments, small nigiri mixes, and simple bento-style boxes rather than made-to-order pieces. Expect mid-range airport pricing (think €10–€16 per tray) for food that reviewers call “OK for an airport” but obviously not Ginza-level. Portions tend to run small for the price according to multiple Google comments.

Regulars say the safer bet is basic salmon or tuna rolls instead of the fancier combo boxes with lots of toppings; those simpler sets turn over faster and usually taste fresher. One reviewer flat-out says they pick the plain rolls, grab a bottle of water, and skip sweets from other counters to keep it light before a short-hop flight from Turin to Rome or Paris.

Common complaints: rice can be a bit dry and the fish slightly dull, especially later in the evening after sitting in the case for hours. If you’re flying on a 20:30 departure, check the packaging times or reach for trays pushed to the back, which are more likely to be from a later batch. Soy sauce packets and wasabi are free at the till, but ginger can run out at busy times.

Tip: If sushi is non-negotiable, hit Giappo soon after it opens around 10:00 or during the early-evening rush (18:00–19:30) when turnover is highest; otherwise, you may be paying $$ for tired rolls.
