McDonald's

T1

Gate-side in T1, McDonald’s is the familiar backup plan

This McDonald’s in Terminal T1 sits airside, so you reach it after security and passport control. It’s one of the few global chains in SSH, which makes it an easy call if you land hungry from a short-haul flight and don’t want to guess on local spots. Seating is limited and spills into the concourse, so expect to hover for a chair at busy departure banks around the 09:00–11:00 and 19:00–22:00 waves.

Menu basics track the standard global lineup: Big Mac, McChicken, fries, and soft drinks, plus a rotation of regional sandwiches that change a few times a year. Portions match typical McDonald’s sizing, and value meals usually price below many sit-down options in T1. Most orders move from till to tray in under 10 minutes outside peak charter times, which helps if you’re boarding from the nearby T1 gates soon.

Payment usually runs smoothly with major credit cards and contactless; have some Egyptian pounds handy because systems in SSH can glitch, and a few travelers each week still report card hiccups at other T1 outlets. The counter opens early to catch outbound European flights, often around the first wave near 05:00, and stays running until the late-night departures bank, so it works for both red-eye arrivals and late returns to Cairo.

Expect basic airport pricing: a combo here can run notably higher than in town, but still under many full-service airport restaurants in T1 or T2. You won’t find table service, power outlets at every seat, or quiet corners, but you do get predictable food before you line up at a T1 gate. One practical play: check your gate first, then order to go and eat nearer your boarding area to avoid last-minute sprints across T1.
