Metered taxis wait directly outside Saipan Airport’s Main terminal

Right outside the Main terminal arrivals door, taxis line up on the curb and usually cover the 12–15 km ride into Garapan in about 20–30 minutes, traffic and hotel location depending. Rides are by car, not van or bus, so plan on standard trunk space for two big suitcases and a couple of carry-ons.

Saipan taxis run 24 hours, but the busiest window is roughly 10:00–16:00, when most regional flights land and depart. Late-night or very early morning (00:00–05:00), you may find only one or two cars at the stand, so the wait can stretch to 15–20 minutes if another flight has just unloaded.

There’s no fixed airport flat fare posted at SPN, so drivers typically quote a rate based on distance; expect around USD $20–$30 from the Main terminal to central Garapan hotels, and slightly more (around $30–$40) for resorts farther north like San Roque. Always confirm the price in US dollars before the driver pulls away from the curb.

Taxis are cash-first here, with US dollars the standard; only a minority of drivers accept cards, and those who do may add a 3–5% surcharge to cover processing. Grab at least $50 in small bills from an ATM in town before your return trip, because the airport itself has limited banking options and some cabs struggle to break $100 notes.

Inside the small Main terminal arrivals area, after you exit baggage claim, follow the single exit door straight ahead to the taxi rank sign on the right-hand side; there’s usually an airport staff member or security guard near the door who can point you to the next free cab. If the stand is empty, ask that staffer to call a local company, as most operators keep dispatch numbers posted at the curb.

For departures from hotels back to SPN, most properties along Beach Road in Garapan can phone a taxi for you and will suggest leaving 90–120 minutes before your scheduled flight time, given the 20–30 minute drive plus check-in and security. If you’re catching an early morning outbound around 06:00–07:00, book your taxi at least the night before so you’re not hunting for a car in the dark.

Practical tip: Screenshot your hotel address and the words “Saipan International Airport, Main Terminal” in English on your phone; signal can drop on parts of the island, and showing that screen to the driver speeds things up and cuts down on any language confusion.
