Gate-side in T1, this shop flies the yellow border
Just off the main departures corridor in Terminal T1, the National Geographic Store leans hard into maps, photography, and branded travel gear. It sits airside after security, so you can duck in even on a short domestic hop out of SMR. Signage is clear in English and Spanish, and it’s one of the more recognizable logos in the terminal, so it’s easy to spot on a quick pass.
Books and magazines run from around COP 40,000 for smaller titles up to higher-priced coffee-table photography books with the National Geographic imprint. You’ll also see logo hoodies, T-shirts, and caps that skew more “airport merch” than serious outdoor kit. This is more a place to grab an extra read for a 2–3 hour flight than to gear up for a multi-day trek in the Sierra Nevada.
Beyond books, there are globes, posters, and small educational toys that work as last‑minute gifts for kids, often in the COP 30,000–70,000 range. Some items come only with Spanish text, so check covers and packaging if you need English. The focus tilts more toward imagery and branding than deep guidebook shelves, so don’t count on detailed regional guides for Colombia here.
Cards are widely accepted, and prices ring up in Colombian pesos first, with occasional reference prices in USD on tags. Staff typically bag items quickly; just factor in a 5–10 minute browse so you’re not sweating boarding time. Tip: flip through any sealed or plastic-wrapped book at the counter before you walk back to your T1 gate, as returns after you leave security are basically a non-starter.
