Park and Wait Lot

Short stay

Free lot west of Terminal Drive beats paying garage rates

The Park and Wait Lot at SLC sits just west of Terminal Drive, a bit south of the main Terminal curb. It functions as the airport’s free cell-phone lot, meant for pickups, not real parking. You pull in, park, watch the arrivals board or your app, and only drive up to the Terminal curb once your passenger texts that they’re outside.

This is short-stay only and completely free, unlike the hourly spaces in the main garage that start charging as soon as you pull a ticket. There’s no walking path into the Terminal from here; once your person has landed, you still need to rejoin Terminal Drive and move to the departing/arriving curb or into the garage if you plan to leave the car and go inside.

Drivers mention that the new SLC roadway layout and ramps make the first trip to the Park and Wait Lot a bit confusing for GPS, especially approaching from I‑80 and merging onto Terminal Drive. Watch for the signed “Park and Wait” turnoff on the west side rather than blindly following your phone. If you miss it, you’ll loop past the Terminal and back around, which can easily add 10–15 minutes in traffic.

Regulars use this lot to avoid any garage or economy charges on routine pickups, often sitting with flight status pulled up until bags show on the carousel. They time the drive from Park and Wait to the Terminal curb at roughly 5–10 minutes, depending on traffic on Terminal Drive. Plan your exit so you’re rolling up just as your passenger reaches the outer curb with bags in hand.

Tip: Add the Park and Wait Lot location to your GPS favorites the first time you find it, then follow airport signs for “Park and Wait” instead of default Terminal routing on future trips.
