Runway-facing seats in Lotus Lounge T2 beat the buffet
In T2 international at SGN, Vietnam Airlines’ Lotus Lounge 1 is the one with big floor-to-ceiling windows and proper runway-facing seats, so avgeeks usually pick it even though the food is only so-so. Access is mainly Vietnam Airlines business class and SkyTeam elites on international departures out of Terminal 2.
The lounge sits airside in T2’s international departures zone, past security and immigration, roughly a 3–5 minute walk from most Vietnam Airlines gates in the mid-20s. Figure you want to be leaving the lounge about 30 minutes before boarding, since the terminal’s passport control queues on arrival can already chew up 20–30 minutes.
Seating runs to rows of chairs positioned directly along the glass with views over SGN’s main runway 25R/07L, plus more standard armchairs and small tables further back. Power outlets sit between a fair number of seats, so you can charge a laptop and phone while watching A350s and 787s taxi past at sunset.
Food is basic buffet style: expect a few hot Vietnamese dishes, some simple Western carb options, and small desserts, usually spread over one counter line rather than multiple stations. Regulars on FlyerTalk say Lotus lounges in SGN and HAN are “neither fantastic nor terrible,” and many rate some contract lounges higher on food variety.
Drinks skew functional: coffee machines, soft drinks in cans, a couple of beers, and a short rail of spirits with mixers; don’t expect bartender service or fancy cocktails. If you care about wine, plan on something very ordinary by the glass and maybe two red / two white bottles at most.
Showers are sometimes available but limited, so figure only a handful of rooms for the whole lounge; ask at the front desk as soon as you enter if you’re connecting off a long-haul and want one. Wi‑Fi is free, password posted on signage near the entrance, and usually fast enough for streaming in the 5–20 Mbps range.
What regulars do: frequent Vietnam Airlines flyers who like aircraft spotting pick Lotus Lounge 1 over some contract options, explicitly trading better buffet lines for that full-length runway view and a guaranteed power outlet at the window. If you care more about hot food than A350 photos, you may be happier eating in the terminal first.
Practical tip: head straight to the window seats on arrival, grab one with an outlet, and eat later; those front-row spots with direct runway views are the first to disappear during the evening bank of departures.
