Shared shuttle

Airport pickup for Cloud 9 runs from both Terminals 1 and 2

Cloud 9 Shuttle is a shared-ride van service serving San Diego International Airport (SAN) from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It runs between the airport and hotels, homes, and offices across San Diego County, so you can usually share a ride from SAN to downtown, Mission Valley, La Jolla, or coastal suburbs instead of paying solo-taxi rates. Pricing varies by distance and passenger count, but expect shared rides to undercut metered taxis on most trips over 6–8 miles.

Pickups happen curbside outside baggage claim at SAN

At Terminal 1, Cloud 9 pickups typically use the transportation zones on the arrivals level, near the labeled shuttle island by door 3 or 5. At Terminal 2, look for the shuttle pickup signs on the lower level curb, near the center of the terminal around doors 2–6. You wait curbside until the dispatcher or driver checks your name and destination and then groups you into a van with other passengers heading in the same general direction.

Book online or by phone before you land

Cloud 9 takes advance reservations via website or phone, usually asking for your airline, flight number, and arrival time at SAN. Same-day bookings are possible, but for late-night arrivals after 22:00 or early-morning departures before 06:00, pre-booking is safer so a van is already slotted for your window. You’ll get a confirmation number you may need to show at the curb when the vehicle pulls up.

Expect shared-ride timing to add 15–30 minutes

Because Cloud 9 is shared, the van might loop to two or three stops after SAN before reaching your exact address. For central areas like downtown (about 3 miles from SAN) or Hotel Circle (around 6 miles), build in an extra 15–30 minutes over a private car. Morning rush hours on I‑5 and I‑8 can stretch that further, so don’t cut it close for departures, especially for flights leaving before 09:00.

Basic steps to use Cloud 9 at SAN

  • 1. Reserve online or by phone with your SAN flight details.
  • 2. Land at Terminal 1 or 2 and collect your bags on the lower level.
  • 3. Walk to the marked shuttle pickup zone outside baggage claim doors.
  • 4. Check in with the Cloud 9 driver or dispatcher using your name and confirmation number.
  • 5. Load bags, share the van with other riders, and pay per your reservation (card or voucher as specified).

One last tip

For early morning flights out of SAN, schedule your Cloud 9 pickup at least 2.5 hours before departure time for domestic flights from Terminals 1 or 2, and 3 hours if you’re crossing the border or checking bags at peak times.
