Shawarmer

Terminal 5’s Shawarmer keeps things fast and familiar

Right in Terminal 5, Shawarmer is the quick option when you just want a shawarma wrap and don’t feel like guessing at a menu. It’s past security with the other fast-food chains, so you can order, eat, and still keep an eye on a domestic Saudia departure from nearby gates.

The menu sticks to basics: chicken or beef shawarma wraps, a few sides, and combo meals with fries and a drink. Expect typical Saudi fast-food pricing, with most sandwiches and meals landing in the mid-range for RUH, cheaper than a full-service sit-down spot in Terminal 1 or 2. Portions run on the heavier side, which works if you’re skipping the airplane meal on a short-haul flight.

Turnaround is usually quick, with most orders out in under 10 minutes during normal traffic. Peak times tie to Saudia banks in Terminal 5, so around late evening and just after prayer times the line can snake into the corridor. Staff generally handle orders efficiently and are used to people flashing boarding passes and asking “10 minutes or less?” before committing.

Quality is about what you’d expect from a national chain: consistent seasoning, lots of garlic sauce, and fries that hold up for the walk to gates 501–520. If you want something lighter, ask for less sauce and skip fries for extra pickles. Vegetarian options are limited, so if you need a meat-free meal you may be better off at another outlet in a different terminal before heading to 5.

Final tip: if your flight boards from a remote stand, eat at Shawarmer before heading to the bus gates at the far end of Terminal 5, since coming back for food once you’re down there is a 10–15 minute round-trip walk.
