Terminal 1’s Shawarmer keeps late departures fed with fast wraps.
Shawarmer sits airside in Terminal 1 at King Khalid International Airport, handy if your flight leaves from the older international gates. It’s a quick-service counter focused on Saudi-style shawarma wraps, with chicken the main draw. Expect typical fast-food pricing for the airport: individual sandwiches usually land in the mid-range for RUH, cheaper than a full-service sit-down spot in other terminals.
Menu basics: chicken and beef shawarma in tortilla-style or Arabic bread, plus combo meals with fries and a soft drink. Portions run on the smaller side, so plan on two sandwiches if you’re hungry before an overnight flight. Sauces lean garlicky and slightly tangy, familiar if you’ve visited Shawarmer in Riyadh city locations. Vegetarian choices are limited, usually just fries, sides, and possibly a basic falafel-style option if stocked.
Service is counter-order with order numbers called; during evening peaks around the 19:00–23:00 bank, waits of 10–15 minutes can happen while they clear airline crew lines. Staff move orders quickly by pre-assembling meat, then finishing wraps to order. Seating near the outlet is shared with other Terminal 1 food spots, so you may end up carrying your tray to any open table in sight of the nearby gates.
Figure on spending about 25–40 SAR per person for a sandwich plus drink, a bit more if you double up. Compared with coffee chains in Terminal 1, Shawarmer runs slightly higher than a pastry and latte, but you actually leave feeling fed. Card payment is standard and contactless terminals usually work, saving time when the queue stretches past the stanchions.
Tip: if your gate is at the far end of Terminal 1, order to go and walk toward your gate while you eat; security and passport control can already be behind you, so you won’t lose time backtracking for food later.
