Gate-side cash fix at T1 before you clear out

GWK Travelex in Rotterdam The Hague Airport sits in Terminal T1 and runs limited hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Sundays. It’s mainly a last-minute stop for euros or other major currencies if you still travel with cash, plus basic travel essentials behind the counter. Don’t expect a big shop; think service counter more than mini-mart.

The counter opens at 10:00, so early morning departures out of T1 won’t be able to use it. Flights leaving after lunch line up with the 17:00 closing time better, but cutoffs matter: sort out money before you head for boarding. Service is airport-standard, and rates and fees typically beat withdrawing from an out-of-network ATM abroad only if your bank is pricey.

Alongside currency exchange, GWK Travelex usually sells small travel items like plug adapters, money belts, and sometimes prepaid cards, all from a compact footprint in Terminal T1. Prices run higher than in the city, as expected at an airport, but you’re paying for timing and location more than value. Cards generally work for purchases, though you’re standing there mainly to walk away with cash.

Call it a backup plan, not your main budget tool. Sort most of your trip money through your bank ahead of time, then use GWK Travelex in T1 only if you land on an awkward connection or forgot local cash. One tip: check your bank’s ATM fees before travel; if they’re low, skip the counter and use an ATM in town instead.
