20–30 pesos gets you from PVR to town on ATM Red Urbano
From Terminals A and B at Puerto Vallarta (PVR), ATM Red Urbano Route Aeropuerto is the rock-bottom-cost option into the Hotel Zone and Centro, usually for around 10–30 MXN in cash, paid directly to the driver. It’s a city bus, not an airport shuttle, so think backpack or small roller, not three giant checked bags.
You cannot board at the arrivals curb outside Terminal A or B; you have to walk out of the terminal, follow the signs toward the highway, and cross the pedestrian bridge over Highway 200 to the opposite side. Look for the white and green ATM buses marked for “Centro,” “Zona Hotelera,” or similar, and be ready to flag them down from the roadside stop.
Daytime frequency is solid, with buses usually coming every few minutes in regular hours, but riders say service thins out noticeably late at night after around 22:00. Many repeat visitors skip the bus entirely after dark and switch to taxi or app-based rides because of comfort and perceived safety on a late, half-empty bus.
There’s no luggage rack on these ATM Red Urbano buses, and locals complain about crowding around 08:00–09:30 and again after 17:00 on weekdays. If you show up with two big suitcases, you’ll end up blocking the aisle and apologizing every time the driver brakes for yet another stop along the Hotel Zone.
Comfort is hit or miss: some buses have weak air-con or fans only, and the ride into Centro can feel slow and stop‑and‑go compared with a 20–30 minute taxi run. On the flip side, you’re paying a tiny fraction of the 300–400 MXN taxi quotes that greet you inside the arrivals hall.
Regulars keep small bills and coins ready, usually 10s and 20s, since drivers often don’t have much change for larger denominations like 200 MXN. They also ask the driver “¿Va a Centro?” or “¿Zona Romántica?” before tapping on, because more than one ATM route passes near the airport and not all head where tourists want.
Tip: If your flight lands after about 21:00 or you’re hauling more than one suitcase per person, treat the bus as a backup plan and budget for a taxi from Terminal A or B instead.
