One level up from the PVR arrivals curb, your bus is on the highway
ATM Pacifico Compostela Line runs north from near Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR) toward Bucerías, La Cruz, Sayulita, and other Riviera Nayarit towns, but the buses don’t drive into Terminal A or B. You reach them by walking out of arrivals, crossing to the pedestrian bridge over Highway 200, and catching the intercity buses on the far side with the other ATM stops.
Fares on these Pacifico/Compostela buses are dirt‑cheap compared with a 700–1,200 MXN taxi to Sayulita or San Pancho; think small bills and coins, under 100–150 MXN for most runs north. You pay the driver directly when you board, and there’s no card terminal, so hit the airport ATM in Terminal A before heading to the bridge.
Journey time is significantly longer than a direct taxi: reports put PVR–Bucerías at about 45–60 minutes, PVR–Sayulita closer to 1.5 hours, and farther towns like San Pancho taking even more if traffic is heavy. These buses stop along Highway 200 and in local towns, so expect lots of on‑offs and speed bumps instead of a straight highway blast.
Frequency is not great; you might wait 20–40 minutes between northbound Pacifico/Compostela buses outside PVR, especially midday or late evening. There’s no real‑time app or display, so you watch the destination signs in the front window and flag the right one as it approaches the highway stop by the pedestrian bridge.
Comfort is basic: think standard Mexican interurban bus seats, fans or basic A/C, and minimal luggage space. Trip reports mention standing room only at busy times between PVR and Bucerías, and big surfboard bags or 70‑liter backpacks can be awkward on crowded runs, especially if you board with locals commuting home.
Regulars always ask the driver, in Spanish if possible, “¿Va a Sayulita?” or the exact town name before paying, because some Compostela buses terminate earlier at Bucerías or La Cruz. They also keep bags to carry‑on size so they can hold them on their lap or in the small overhead rack without blocking the aisle.
- Tip: If you land at PVR after about 20:00, have a backup plan like an official airport taxi to Bucerías or Sayulita, because Pacifico/Compostela departures thin out and waiting on Highway 200 at night can burn an extra hour.
