T1’s main Sunrise Duty Free sits past security with long hours
In Shanghai Pudong’s Terminal T1, Sunrise Duty Free is the primary duty-free option once you clear security, so you don’t need to shop landside. It generally opens early in the morning and stays running through the last departures, which covers the typical bank of international flights out of T1.
Expect the usual liquor, tobacco, cosmetics, skincare, and perfume lineups from the big international brands, plus Chinese labels that are harder to find outside mainland China. Prices on spirits and cigarettes usually undercut downtown Shanghai shops by a noticeable margin once you factor in VAT and duty, though not every cosmetic brand matches online promo pricing.
Layout is classic walk-through: you pass Sunrise Duty Free as you head toward multiple T1 gates, so you can browse without leaving your path to the aircraft. Shelves near the front lean heavily on fragrances and cosmetics; alcohol and tobacco are pushed a bit deeper into the store, so you may need an extra 5–10 minutes if you’re hunting a specific bottle before your T1 flight boards.
Staff typically handle the usual customs rules for China export, and the checkout process often involves scanning your boarding pass for a T1 departure. That means you should bring all passports and boarding passes for anyone you’re buying for, especially if you’re picking up more than one carton or bottle.
Tip: shop here after security in T1 rather than downtown; it keeps your bags lighter on the way to the airport and avoids any confusion with departure allowances at check-in.
