Busan Metro Line 2

Metro connection

Metro connection ≈20–25 min Sasang–Seomyeon (Line 2 only)

₩1,500–₩1,800 on Busan Metro Line 2 beats airport buses in daytime traffic

From Gimhae International Airport’s Domestic or International terminal, you take the Gimhae LRT to Sasang, then transfer to Busan Metro Line 2 for Seomyeon or on toward Haeundae. Once you’re actually on Line 2, Sasang–Seomyeon runs about 20–25 minutes, and airport to Seomyeon usually lands around the 55–65 minute mark including the LRT hop and transfer. This is the default budget route Reddit regulars mention for getting to central Busan or the beach without gambling on road congestion.

How the transfer at Sasang actually works

At Sasang, the LRT and Line 2 do not share a platform; you go up or down one level and pass a second set of turnstiles, which adds roughly 3–7 minutes depending on crowds. The good news: the LRT and Busan Metro both accept the same contactless transport cards such as Hanaro or cash-charged T-money, so you don’t need a new card between airport and Seomyeon or Centum City. Just be ready for some stairs, escalators, and slightly confusing signs pointing to multiple exits.

Step-by-step from the airport to Line 2

  • 1. From Domestic or International arrivals, follow “Light Rail Transit” signs to the Gimhae LRT station; walking time is about 5–10 minutes under cover.
  • 2. Buy or top up a transport card at the LRT machines; a single LRT ride to Sasang runs around ₩1,400–₩1,500 depending on distance and card type.
  • 3. Ride the LRT toward Sasang; airport–Sasang usually takes about 10–15 minutes with several intermediate stops.
  • 4. At Sasang, exit the LRT gates, follow signs to “Metro Line 2,” then enter the separate Busan Metro turnstiles one level up or down.
  • 5. On Line 2, take the eastbound platform toward Seomyeon, Gwangan, Centum City, and Jangsan; Sasang–Seomyeon is roughly 20–25 minutes, and Sasang–Centum City is closer to 35–40 minutes.
  • 6. For Haeundae, ride to either Haeundae Station on Line 2 or change at Centum City or Jangsan for buses or taxis for the last 5–15 minutes.

What regulars do

Locals on r/busan say to dodge Line 2 with big checked bags during the 8:00–9:00 and 18:00–19:00 peaks, especially between Sasang, Seomyeon, and Centum City where trains feel packed. Some frequent riders even stay on the LRT one stop past Sasang, then ride back so they can board Line 2 from the originating end of the platform and grab seats for the 20–40 minute metro leg with luggage in front of them rather than jammed in the aisle.

Watch out for crowding and bags

Line 2 trains have almost no dedicated luggage racks, so 24–28 inch suitcases often sit in doorways or in front of bench seats, which other passengers silently hate. Foreign travelers on Reddit also mention that signage between the LRT and Metro concourses at Sasang can feel unintuitive the first time, with different exits and concourse numbers adding to the confusion. Give yourself an extra 10–15 minutes on the first run so a missed train doesn’t wreck tight check-in cutoffs at Gimhae.

Tip: Aim for late morning or mid‑afternoon Line 2 departures from Sasang, and stand near the front or back car to grab a corner space for luggage before the Seomyeon crowd piles in.
