Busan–Gimhae Light Rail Transit

Train

Train ≈60 min airport–Seomyeon/Haeundae with Metro transfer ₩1,700–₩1,900

₩1,700–₩1,900 gets you from the airport into Busan on rails

For solo arrivals or anyone with just a backpack, the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail Transit from Gimhae International Airport Station is the cheapest, most predictable way into the city before you hop to Metro Line 2 or an intercity bus at Sasang. A tap-on with T-money or Cashbee runs about ₩1,700–₩1,900 to Sasang, versus several times that for a taxi into Seomyeon or Haeundae.

The station sits directly outside the International Terminal at PUS, signed as “Gimhae Intl Airport” on the LRT map, and trains toward Sasang start around 5:30 AM and run until roughly 12:10 AM. Domestic Terminal passengers can walk over in a few minutes via the signed internal corridor rather than taking any shuttle.

From the airport to Seomyeon or Haeundae, plan about 60 minutes on paper using LRT plus Metro Line 2, but regulars report more like 70–80 minutes door to door once you add the transfer walk and platform waits at Sasang. If traffic is bad on the Gyeongbu Expressway, this still beats sitting on an airport limousine bus crawling toward Seomyeon for an hour and a half.

Standard single-journey tickets from the machines at Gimhae International Airport Station cost about ₩2,000 once deposit and small surcharges are factored in, while using T-money or Cashbee trims the per-trip fare by roughly ₩100. Locals top up at the CU or GS25 convenience stores inside the International Terminal before heading down to the platforms to avoid queues at the machines.

Sasang is the LRT terminus and the transfer point to Busan Metro Line 2 and the intercity and express bus terminals on the north side of the station. You must exit the light rail fare gates and then re-enter the Busan Metro system, so budget at least 10–15 minutes at Sasang for walking, tapping out and back in, and finding the right Line 2 platform toward Seomyeon or Haeundae.

Trains use narrow, fully automated LRT cars, and commuters pile on from about 7:30–9:00 AM and again 5:30–7:30 PM on weekdays. Reddit regulars describe standing room only with hard-sided suitcases, so they stand near the doors between stations like Deunggu and Gaya to avoid dragging luggage through crowded aisles when getting off at Sasang.

English signage is strong inside the International and Domestic terminals, but it drops a notch once you pass into the station concourse and onto the platforms. Look specifically for the purple LRT icon and “Sasang (사상)” on platform boards, and keep a screenshot of the line map with station names like Deunggu (대구) and Sasang (사상) in both English and Hangul.

  • Step 1: After exiting arrivals in the International or Domestic terminal, follow signs for “Light Rail / Gimhae International Airport Station” and walk 3–5 minutes to the station entrance.
  • Step 2: Load or top up a T-money or Cashbee card at the CU or GS25 in the terminal, or buy a single-journey ticket at the LRT machines (about ₩2,000 including deposit).
  • Step 3: Tap in at the LRT gates and board the train toward Sasang; trains start around 5:30 AM and run until about 12:10 AM.
  • Step 4: Ride to Sasang (roughly 15–20 minutes from the airport), then exit through the LRT fare gates.
  • Step 5: Follow signs to Busan Metro Line 2, tap into the Metro gates as a separate system, and board Line 2 toward Seomyeon or Haeundae.
  • Step 6: Expect 30–40 minutes on Line 2 from Sasang to Seomyeon, and about 55–60 minutes total from the airport to Haeundae in typical conditions.

One tip: if your flight lands after about 11:30 PM, assume you will miss the last 12:10 AM departure and budget instead for a taxi from the International Terminal rank.
