Daily rates at Economy Parking usually undercut the terminal garages

Economy Parking is Tocumen International Airport’s official long‑stay lot, serving both T1 and T2 with lower daily prices than the main terminal structures. It sits on airport property, so you’re paying PTY rates without the risk that comes with off‑airport operators. Pay stations accept cards and cash in US dollars and Panamanian balboa, which are pegged 1:1, so your receipts line up easily with trip expenses.

This is an uncovered surface lot, so every car sits outside in the Panama City heat and rain. In the wet season from roughly May to November, expect heavy downpours and plan for wet luggage if you’re loading in the open. In the dry months, sun exposure is constant; if you care about interiors, bring a windshield shade or park as far from the entrance lights as practical to cut direct sun.

Walking time to the terminal usually runs around 8–12 minutes, depending on your row and which door you use for T1 or T2. There’s no consistent shuttle schedule published, so don’t bank on a van saving you if you’re late. Treat this like any park‑and‑walk setup: drop passengers and bags curbside first at T1 or T2, then loop back to park and walk in light.

Security is basic but present: official airport staff patrols and cameras cover the main drive aisles, though not every single space. Don’t leave visible backpacks, duty‑free bags, or electronics; lock things in the trunk before you turn into the lot so it’s not obvious. Keep your paper ticket or barcode on your phone, because the exit gates at PTY will charge the maximum day rate if they can’t read your entry data cleanly.

Plan one extra half‑hour in your schedule for Economy Parking: 10 minutes to find a space, 10 to walk, and 10 as a buffer if the payment machines or exit gates are backed up after a bank of evening departures.
