Bus 4 runs past PSP every 30 minutes on weekdays
SunLine Route 4 is the local bus that serves Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) from the Main terminal area, with stops on Tahquitz Canyon Way about a 5–7 minute walk from the terminal doors. The line connects the airport area to downtown Palm Springs in one direction and to the Ramon Road corridor in the other. This is a standard city bus, not an express airport coach.
A regular adult fare on SunLine Route 4 is around $1–$2 per ride, so even a round-trip from PSP to central Palm Springs costs less than most $20–$25 rideshare trips. You pay on board at the front door, and drivers accept cash in small bills and coins; there’s also mobile and pass options through SunLine, but those need to be set up before you board. Keep a couple of $1 bills in your wallet if you’re landing late.
On weekdays, Route 4 typically runs every 30 minutes during daytime hours, with less frequent service in the early morning and later evening; on weekends, headways can stretch closer to 40–60 minutes, especially on Sunday. The first and last trips vary by schedule change, so check the current SunLine timetable for your exact date if your flight lands after 9:00 pm. Missing a departure can easily add close to an hour to your airport exit time.
The stop you want is on Tahquitz Canyon Way, just north of the Main terminal, and you’ll usually reach it in about 5 minutes at a normal walking pace with carry-on luggage. Look for the standard blue-and-white SunLine bus stop sign with the Route 4 number posted. There is no sheltered transit center at the terminal itself, so in July and August the walk in 100°F+ heat matters more than the short distance.
Step-by-step from the Main terminal to Route 4: 1) Exit baggage claim at PSP and turn toward Tahquitz Canyon Way, which runs east–west just north of the terminal. 2) Walk about 5–7 minutes along the signed pedestrian route toward the main road, watching for the marked crosswalk. 3) Cross to the north side of Tahquitz Canyon Way at the nearest signal. 4) Find the SunLine Route 4 bus stop sign and check the posted schedule. 5) Have your $1–$2 fare ready and board using the front door when the bus pulls up.
Plan one buffer: if your flight lands after 8:00 pm or you’re checked luggage–heavy, pull up the live schedule while still at the gate and decide before you leave the Main terminal whether to walk out to Route 4 or switch to a taxi queue instead.
