Currency exchange desk

Rates here usually beat what you’ll get in the city

The Currency exchange desk sits in Pisa Airport’s T1, after security, near the main departures hall for Schengen flights. It opens in the morning before the first bank branches in town and typically keeps hours that track the flight schedule, staying open into the late evening departures bank. If your flight leaves before 07:00, expect it to be one of the first services operating airside.

You’ll pay for the airport location through a spread, not a flat fee. Minimum exchanges of around €10–€20 are generally accepted, but you’ll feel the markup more on small conversions than on €200–€300 swaps. For anything over €500, your bank card at an airport ATM in T1 almost always prices out better than handing over cash at the counter.

The desk handles euros plus the usual majors: US dollars, British pounds, Swiss francs and often a rotating list of other currencies shown on a printed board by the window. Less common notes may need to be ordered, which doesn’t help on a same-day departure. For on-the-spot needs, think of it as a euro top-up station rather than a full-service FX shop.

Tip: if you just landed at PSA and only need €20–€40 for a taxi, pull from the ATM beside the desk in T1 and skip converting leftover home currency here.
