North Terminal pricing here beats most onboard duty-free carts
The Duty Free Shop sits airside in the North Terminal, right after security and before the main international departure gates. It’s your last shot at tax-free liquor, cigarettes, perfume, and basic gifts before boarding at POS. Stock rotates, but you usually see Caribbean rums, whisky, and vodka in 1L bottles, plus branded chocolate boxes that travel well.
Liquor deals often run around two 1L bottles for a set bundle price, typically cheaper than downtown Port of Spain shops once you factor in taxes. Tobacco cartons sit behind the counter with prices labeled in TT and USD. Staff ring up in Trinidad and Tobago dollars but accept major cards without extra fees beyond your bank’s FX rate.
The shop opens early to catch morning departures, usually around 4:00–4:30 a.m., and stays open into the late-night bank of flights. That covers most North Terminal international departures, including US and regional Caribbean routes. If you land on a late inbound and turn around the same night, you normally still find the lights on here.
Selection leans heavily Caribbean: expect local rum brands, regional hot sauces in small glass bottles, and 100 g to 300 g chocolate bars suited to carry-on packing. Travel-sized perfumes and cosmetics sit near the front, with 50 ml and 100 ml bottles in standard gift sets. Prices are posted clearly, so you can compare against your connecting airport.
Tip: shop at the Duty Free Shop before heading to a far North Terminal gate; walking back from the end of the pier can easily eat 10–15 minutes of your boarding buffer.
