Island Cuisine

Local · Caribbean

North Open · 07:00 - 20:00 $$$$ Post-security

Most POS regulars say “eat in town”; Island Cuisine tests that rule

In Piarco’s North Terminal, post-security, Island Cuisine runs 07:00–20:00 and tries to give you local Caribbean food instead of generic fast food. It sits airside among the slim pickings everyone on Reddit complains about, so expectations stay low but focused: this is one of the few spots aiming at Trini-style plates before you board.

Prices land in the mid-range ($$), so think roughly US$10–18 for a main rather than snack money. Seating is basic airport tables, not a long-stay lounge setup, and you’re still in full view of the gate areas in North. That makes it workable for a 45–60 minute sit-down between check-in and an evening departure.

The headliner here is the curry goat, clearly marked as a signature dish on the local / Caribbean menu. If they’re doing things properly, expect it with rice, maybe some veg or slaw, and a decent amount of gravy rather than a dry plate. Portions at similar POS spots tend to run on the heavy side, so a single main usually carries you through a 3–4 hour flight.

Because flyers on Reddit and FlyerTalk mostly report “forgettable” food options at POS and don’t mention Island Cuisine by name, there isn’t yet a strong track record to lean on. No consistent praise, no horror stories, just a blank spot in the usual airport gossip. Treat it like a test case: try the curry goat first, then decide if you risk a second dish.

With only one terminal code in play here (North), finding it is simple, but turnover can still be slow during the 17:00–19:00 departure push. Tip: if you land hungry before 10:00, eat here early; the 07:00 opening time makes Island Cuisine a rare sit-down option before the mid-morning wave hits the rest of Piarco.
