Marybrown Kafe

★ 3

Right in PEN T1’s public area, Marybrown Kafe is your basic fallback

Marybrown Kafe sits landside in Penang International Airport’s T1, before security, so it works for early arrivals, greeters, or anyone not checked in yet. It’s a local fast-food style spot with a simple menu and a middling 3.0 rating, so think utility over destination dining. You’ll see it on the main departures level, alongside other grab‑and‑go options.

Prices run in the typical Malaysian airport range: expect roughly RM12–RM18 for fried chicken or burger sets, and a bit more if you add sides and drinks. Portions lean standard fast-food size, not huge, not tiny. If you’re watching costs before a short AirAsia hop or a longer Malaysia Airlines sector, this landside option is usually cheaper than many airside cafés in T1.

Menu focus is straightforward: fried chicken, burgers, and rice plates, with some local‑leaning seasoning rather than a pure US-style profile. If you only have 20–30 minutes before heading to security, stick to a chicken set or burger combo; they tend to come out faster than anything that needs extra prep. Coffee and soft drinks are on offer, but this is more fryers and grills than barista counter.

Seating is standard plastic tables in the open concourse, so you’re eating in the flow of T1 foot traffic. That said, snagging a table for two usually isn’t hard outside the absolute peak morning bank of flights around 07:00–09:00. Power outlets are hit‑or‑miss, so don’t count on charging a laptop while you eat.

Tip: plan your timing so you leave Marybrown Kafe at least 45 minutes before departure; security and walking to some of the farther T1 gates can chew up more time than you expect.
