Pre-booked car service

Landing at 02:00 with two kids and four bags? Book a car.

Private transfers at Bucharest Henri Coandă (OTP) run 24/7 and meet you directly in Terminal 1 arrivals, just past customs. You prebook online with your flight number, and the driver tracks your actual landing time, which matters when OTP arrivals can easily run 30–40 minutes late. Most services include 60 minutes of free waiting time from the moment your flight shows as “landed.”

Standard sedans usually cover up to 3 passengers and 2–3 checked bags, while minivans handle 6–8 passengers with bigger luggage loads to central Bucharest hotels around Piața Unirii, Universitate, or Piața Romană, roughly 18–20 km from the airport. Expect a fixed fare quoted upfront in euro or lei, often in the €25–€40 range for central Bucharest, instead of watching a meter climb in traffic on DN1.

Pickup is almost always at the main arrivals exit in Terminal 1, by the “Meeting Point” sign near the first row of seats and ATMs. Drivers usually hold a sign with your name, which helps when three or four flights from London, Vienna, and Istanbul all dump into arrivals in the same 20-minute window. If you prefer, some companies text you the car’s plate number and model before you exit baggage claim.

Payment is typically card online at booking, which avoids scrambling for lei after landing. Some operators accept contactless card in the car as a backup, but the safest move is to pay the full amount in advance and keep the confirmation email and booking number handy. Infant and child seats can be added at booking with a per-seat fee, often around €5–€10, and you’ll want to request these at least 24 hours ahead.

Step-by-step from plane to car

  • 1. Land at Terminal 1 and follow “Baggage reclaim” signs; it’s usually a 5–10 minute walk from most gates.
  • 2. Clear passport control, then collect luggage from the assigned carousel number shown on the monitors.
  • 3. Walk through customs and exit into the public arrivals hall; there’s only one main exit door for international arrivals.
  • 4. Look for your name on a sign near the “Meeting Point” area, close to the seated waiting zone and the first ATM row.
  • 5. Confirm your name and destination with the driver, then walk with them to the car park just outside Terminal 1, usually a 2–4 minute walk.
  • 6. Load bags, verify the fare matches your email, and share your hotel address or exact street number in Bucharest.

One tip: book a vehicle size one step larger than you think you need if you’re carrying ski bags, strollers, or more than 3 hard-shell suitcases; OTP–city runs with four overstuffed bags feel tight in a regular sedan.
