Tickets on Vy’s R10 line run around half the Flytoget fare

The Vy Regional Train R10 runs from Oslo Airport Gardermoen (station under Terminal T) to Oslo S in about 30–35 minutes, usually only a few minutes slower than the Flytoget express. Trains run on the same tracks and from the same platforms as Flytoget, but with regular NSB/Vy green branding instead of orange. If you’re used to Norwegian rail, this feels like a normal intercity train, just one that happens to stop at the airport.

A one‑way R10 ticket from Oslo Lufthavn to Oslo S typically costs around half the Flytoget price when bought in the Vy app or at the red Vy machines near the platforms. You’ll see “Vy Regiontog R10” or similar on the departure boards; check the time and final destination, not just the word “airport.” The ticket covers standard class only, with no special luggage surcharge and no seat reservations on this stretch.

From the airport station under Terminal T, R10 trains normally run at intervals of roughly 30 minutes during the day, sometimes hourly late at night. Typical northbound or southbound endpoints on boards include Skien or Lillehammer, with Gardermoen listed as “Oslo Lufthavn.” If you are continuing past Oslo S toward towns on the same line, you can often stay on the same R10 train without changing.

Regulars on Norwegian rail forums say they walk past the big orange Flytoget signs and instead board the next green Vy R10 from the same concourse to save around 100 NOK for a family or group. They check the monitors for “Vy R10” plus the exact minute of departure and stand at the correct carriage marker on the platform, since some regional sets are shorter than the full platform length.

One practical tip: in the Vy app, select “Oslo Lufthavn stasjon” to “Oslo S” and compare the R10 departure time with the Flytoget one; if the difference is under 10 minutes, the R10 usually wins on value. Buy before you reach the platform so you’re not fumbling with the machines while the train sits there with doors open for less than 2 minutes.
