After T1 security, WHSmith is the last real snack stop
Once you clear security in Gold Coast Airport T1, you walk straight past WHSmith before the boarding gates, so this is the final chance for magazines, bottled drinks and quick snacks. It sits airside in the main departures corridor, an easy detour even if your gate is at the far end of the terminal.
Doors open early: 5:00am to 8:30pm daily, which covers the bulk of OOL departures, including the first wave of domestic flights. If you’re on a very late-night or heavily delayed service after 8:30pm, don’t count on grabbing anything here and sort your supplies in the public area before security.
Think classic newsagent stock rather than airport supermarket. You’ll see shelves of magazines, paperbacks and newspapers, plus crisps, chocolate bars and bottled water in the fridges. Expect airport pricing: snacks and drinks typically sit a couple of dollars above street prices, and branded travel accessories like neck pillows come in at the higher end.
The YouTube walkthrough isn’t wrong about the neck pillows: this WHSmith has a compact rack of travel pillows, basic chargers and headphones on the central fixtures. If you forgot a charging cable or want a cheap wired backup for in-flight entertainment, you can usually fix that here without hunting around T1 for another shop.
Tip: if your flight boards around the 8:00–8:30pm window, grab drinks and snacks at WHSmith as you pass after security; queues build quickly when two or three evening departures hit the terminal at once.
