45 minutes from NGO to Sakae without touching Nagoya Station
A taxi from Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) straight to Sakae runs about 45 minutes in light traffic and drops you right in the middle of the office towers and nightlife, skipping the Meitetsu train and transfer at Nagoya Station entirely. Most people who take this option are on expense accounts and just want hotel or client-door drop-off in Sakae.
Metered fares from the airport’s T1 and T2 taxi ranks to Sakae usually land around 15,500 yen, sometimes a bit more late at night or if traffic backs up near central Nagoya. That number stings mainly because Centrair sits on an artificial island in Ise Bay, so the route includes toll infrastructure and a long bridge run before you even hit the expressway into town.
Taxi stands sit just outside arrivals at T1 and T2, ground floor, with clear “Taxi” signs and staff directing you to the next cab in line. You don’t need to pre-book, and even in the evening bank of international arrivals you’re usually rolling within 5–10 minutes. Show the driver “栄 (Sakae)” plus your hotel name on your phone, and you’re set.
Most rides follow the expressway for the bulk of the ~40 km trip, then peel off into central Nagoya for the last few minutes to Sakae. If you hit weekday rush hour around 17:00–19:00, expect the total closer to 50–60 minutes and a few hundred yen extra on the meter from slow traffic at the city end.
Credit cards are widely accepted, but not universal, so having at least 20,000 yen in cash covers the fare plus a small tip if you feel like rounding up. Tolls are built into that typical 15,500 yen estimate, but some drivers show the toll slips at the end so you can see how much of the cost is the bridge and expressway from the island.
Practical tip: if the meter is already at 3,000–4,000 yen before you’ve left the airport island, ask the driver for a rough total to Sakae; if the quote sounds high for your budget, have them return you to T1 and switch to the train into Nagoya Station instead.
