40 minutes by taxi gets you from NGO to Handa

If you live on the Chita Peninsula and land at Chubu Centrair after the last good Meitetsu connections, a direct taxi to Handa can make more sense than juggling trains and local buses. The ride runs about 40 minutes from T1 or T2 arrivals to central Handa, and the typical meter total sits around 6,000 yen before any late-night surcharge.

From T1 and T2 international arrivals, follow signs to the official taxi stand on the ground floor; it’s a short walk, under 5 minutes from customs exit to the queue. Tell the dispatcher “Handa-shi” plus your nearest landmark or station, like Handa Station or Chita Handa IC, so they can slot you with a driver who knows the Chita Peninsula routes well.

Metered fare to Handa usually comes in near 6,000 yen in normal traffic, which is roughly the cost of two Meitetsu tickets plus a late local bus or short city taxi for two people. Add 20–30% if you hit the midnight to early-morning surcharge window; many drivers at NGO use standard Nagoya-area taxi rates, so have at least 7,500 yen ready in cash if you’re arriving after 23:00.

Ride time to Handa hovers around 40 minutes using the Chita Peninsula expressway, assuming normal conditions and no weather issues on the bay. If your driver avoids toll roads to save a bit of money, expect closer to 50–55 minutes and tell them upfront if you’d rather pay for the expressway; the toll adds a few hundred yen but usually saves 10–15 minutes door to door.

Most airport taxis at NGO accept IC cards and major credit cards, but smaller companies running to Handa sometimes have card readers that glitch, especially in bad weather; carry at least 7,000 yen in cash per taxi and ask “kaado tsukaemasu ka?” before you load bags in the trunk. Keep your address printed in Japanese or pulled up on a map app to show the driver.

Practical tip: if you’re landing after 22:30 and headed to an address more than 10 minutes from Handa Station, run the math: two Meitetsu tickets plus a local taxi from Handa Station often land within 500–1,000 yen of a straight 6,000 yen airport taxi, so you might as well skip the transfer and ride straight from NGO to your door.
