Bus

€1.30 tickets beat every other ride out of NAP

The standard ANM city bus from Naples Airport Terminal 1 into town costs the ordinary urban fare, around €1.10–€1.30 with a normal bus ticket instead of the higher Alibus rate. You ride the same orange-blue buses locals use, and you’ll likely stand during peak commute times around 08:00–10:00 and again from 17:00–19:00. Expect more stops and slower progress than the Alibus, but the savings add up fast if you’re doing multiple trips.

City buses stop on the airport access road a short walk from Terminal 1 arrivals, not at a dedicated tourist stand. Look for normal ANM bus stops serving routes toward Piazza Garibaldi or Poggioreale; signs list route numbers and major streets in Italian. Service typically starts around 06:00 and runs until roughly 22:00–23:00, but frequency outside commuter hours can drop to one bus every 25–30 minutes.

How to ride the regular city buses from NAP

  • 1. Buy the right ticket: Pick up a standard ANM urban ticket (around €1.10–€1.30) from a tabacchi kiosk or newsstand in Terminal 1 if open. Drivers may not sell tickets, and card payment is hit-or-miss.
  • 2. Walk to the city bus stop: Exit Terminal 1 arrivals, follow signs toward public transport, and look for regular ANM stops on the airport road within about a 5-minute walk.
  • 3. Check the route number: Use the posted timetable for lines heading toward Garibaldi or central connections. If unsure, ask the driver for “Garibaldi” or show your hotel address on your phone.
  • 4. Validate on board: As soon as you board, stamp your paper ticket in the yellow machine; inspectors sometimes check on the airport corridor and fines can hit €100+.
  • 5. Watch your stop: Count stops using a map app, because not every bus has working audio announcements. From NAP to Piazza Garibaldi can take 25–40 minutes depending on traffic and route.

Who should use it and one last tip

City buses make sense if you’re comfortable with Italian route names, don’t mind a 30–40 minute ride with standees, and want the absolute lowest cost into town versus Alibus at about €5 or taxis around €20–25. One practical tip: buy at least two tickets at the airport so you’re not hunting for a tabacchi when you’re tired on your way back to NAP.
