Only real newsstand in International departures

Gate-side at Nadi International’s International terminal, News, Books & Toys is the WHSmith-style stop in a departures zone otherwise dominated by duty-free liquor and perfume. It sits airside after security, so this is the place for a last-minute magazine, paperback, or puzzle book before a long-haul to Australia, New Zealand, or North America.

Hours generally track with international departures, so it’s usually open from early-morning flights through late-evening departures to SYD, AKL, and LAX. Stock leans toward English-language paperbacks, glossy magazines, and kids’ activity books, with a small rack of postcards and basic stationery near the till. Expect airport pricing: a paperback easily runs higher than in Suva or Nadi town.

This is also one of the few spots in the International terminal to grab a simple snack or bottled water that isn’t duty-free. Think crisps, chocolate bars, mints, and 500 ml water bottles rather than hot meals. A YouTube layover video calls it essentially “the place I might buy a sandwich and a bottle of water” in a terminal otherwise filled with perfume and spirits.

Watch out for queues right after a widebody lands or just before a bank of departures to SYD and AKL, when everyone remembers they forgot water and reading material. Stock can look picked over on late-night flights. Tip: buy your drink and magazine here immediately after clearing security, before you sit down at your gate in International and get pinned by boarding calls.
