Train

37 minutes from MXP to Cadorna puts you near the Duomo

The Trenord Malpensa Express to Milano Cadorna runs every 30 minutes from both T1 and T2, and drops you at Cadorna station in about 37 minutes. Trains start around 04:30 and run until roughly 01:30, covering most early departures and late arrivals at Malpensa. Cadorna is on Metro lines M1 (red) and M2 (green), so you get fast access to the historic center and north-west neighborhoods like Sempione and Wagner.

A standard adult ticket from Malpensa to Cadorna costs about €13 one way, and you can buy it from Trenord/Trenitalia machines in T1 and T2 or via the official app before you land. The airport stations are inside the terminal buildings: in T1, follow signs for “Trains / Malpensa Express” down to the basement level; in T2, the station sits directly outside the terminal, linked by a covered walkway that takes under 5 minutes to walk.

Trains usually run as 4-car or 6-car EMUs with 2nd class only, and the ride is all-reserved by time slot, tied to the specific departure you choose. Luggage just goes on overhead racks or the open floor spaces near doors; there’s no dedicated checked baggage service. The line runs non-stop or with limited stops like Busto Arsizio Nord and Saronno, so you avoid the slower regional pattern you see on some alternatives into Centrale.

Validation rules changed a while back: for Malpensa Express tickets bought at machines with a specific time printed, you usually don’t need to stamp them in the green validators, but fines sit around €50+ if you’re caught with the wrong fare in checks. Trains often have onboard staff walking through at least once between Malpensa and Saronno, and they accept contactless tickets from the app as long as the QR code scans cleanly.

If you land in T2 and miss a direct Cadorna train, you can take any Malpensa Express shuttle between T2 and T1 in about 6 minutes and change there, as some patterns run T1–Cadorna only. For late-night arrivals after 23:00, head straight to the platforms instead of stopping for food; missing the last Cadorna departure usually means a more expensive taxi at €90+ into central Milan. Practical tip: screenshot the departure board in the terminal so you remember the exact platform and departure time while you’re hauling bags down to the train.
