Gate-side books and snacks near T1 departures
Right in Milan Malpensa T1, Relay is the standard airport newsstand: magazines, paperbacks, snacks, and travel odds and ends all crammed into a compact space. You’ll see it on the main departures level after security, in the same stretch as the bigger fashion stores. Think last-minute grab, not leisurely browse.
Hours at T1 shops typically track the main bank of departures, opening early morning and running into late evening, so Relay is usually open for that 06:00–22:00 window. If you’re on a 05:40 flight, don’t count on it; if you’re leaving after 21:30, assume a quick in-and-out before staff start closing sections.
Expect standard airport pricing: a bottle of water around €2–3, chocolate bars near €2, and international magazines a couple of euros above city newsstand prices. They stock Italian and English-language titles, plus some French and German options, which helps if you’re connecting through MXP onto long-haul flights from T1.
Relay at T1 also carries basic chargers, EU plug adapters, and simple headphones, often in the €10–25 range. If you forgot a charging cable in Milan city, this is faster than hunting through the larger electronics shops scattered deeper into the terminal. Stationery, pens, and small notebooks sit by the till for quick pickup.
Best use of Relay: grab water, a snack, and something to read before you walk to the far T1 gates, where options thin out. One tip: buy any print reading here rather than waiting for the gate kiosks, which sometimes run low on English-language magazines on busy Sunday and Monday mornings.
