Between security and the T1 gates, Dufry Duty Free eats time fast

Dufry Duty Free in Terminal T1 sits immediately after passport control, so you run into it before most long-haul gates. The walk-through layout means you’re funneled past fragrance and liquor on the way to departures, which adds 3–5 minutes if you stop to browse. It’s open from early morning to late evening in line with main flight banks, so you’ll usually find it running even on the first and last departures of the day.

Prices on liquor and cosmetics match typical EU duty free: think €25–€35 for mid-range spirits and mainstream perfumes in 50 ml sizes. Tobacco and confectionery lines sit near the center, with big-brand chocolate multipacks often under €10. Electronics and travel accessories cost more than city prices, with basic headphones easily hitting €25+ and power banks pushing €40, so this is more last-resort than bargain hunt.

Italian products show up in the food and gift section: boxed gianduja, branded panettone in season, and regional wines from Lombardy and Piedmont starting around €8–€10 a bottle. The wine shelves near the far wall carry Barolo and Amarone at higher price points, often €30 and up. If you want quick gifts, grab chocolate or small olive oil sets close to the cash registers to avoid circling back through the store.

Lines at the main tills can build around the big Schengen departure peaks, roughly 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00. Staff usually open extra registers, but payment still adds 5–10 minutes in those windows. Card payments dominate and contactless terminals work with Apple Pay and Google Pay, which speeds things a bit. Plan your visit on the way to the gate, not when boarding shows “final call.”

Tip: if you’re short on time at T1, skip the central displays and head straight along the right-hand side to reach the checkouts and exit toward the gates faster.
