Near Terminal 1 gates, Relay is your last‑minute backup

Ten minutes from most Terminal 1 check-in counters, Relay is the quick stop for things you forgot to pack. It sits landside, so you can hit it before security if your liquids bag or charger situation isn’t under control. Think magazines, paperbacks, snacks, drinks, cables, and batteries stacked high, with prices a notch above Munich city shops but normal for MUC.

Relay in Terminal 1 usually opens from early morning into the late evening, roughly tracking the first and last departures. You’ll see German and English newspapers, international magazines, and sudoku/crossword books right by the entrance. Snacks lean heavily on packaged chocolate, Haribo, and chips, with cold drinks in the fridge wall at the back. Expect airport pricing: a 0.5L soft drink or water often runs around €3–€4.

Tech and travel bits sit on the side walls: USB-C and Lightning cables, basic power banks, universal adapters, and simple headphones. If you need stationery before a work trip out of Terminal 1, they usually have pens, envelopes, and small notebooks on the same racks. No hot food, no fresh sandwiches, and no seating; this is a grab-and-go stop, not a place to camp for 30 minutes.

Quick tip: do a fast sweep here before security in Terminal 1 for reading material and a backup cable; once you’re airside at some gates, the options shrink and the prices tick up another euro or two.
