Airport Center sit-down pasta makes Vapiano useful for long MUC layovers

Vapiano sits landside in the Munich Airport Center between Terminals 1 and 2, so you can eat here even before security or on a landside connection. It runs typical mall-style hours, roughly 10:00–22:00, and prices land in the mid-range: expect about €11–€15 for most pastas and pizzas. It’s one of the rare spots in MUC where you can sit down with a full plate of pasta rather than just grabbing a Leberkässemmel.

The setup follows the standard Vapiano drill: separate live-cooking stations for pasta, pizza, and salads, each with its own queue. You grab a chip card at the entrance, tap it at the station when you order your tagliatelle or margherita, then pay the total at the cashier on the way out. Drinks run around €3–€4, and desserts like tiramisu sit near the tills. Portions are generous by airport standards, with most pasta bowls easily enough for a main meal.

Regulars mention one big rule: skip Vapiano if you have less than 60 minutes before boarding, especially if you still need to clear security in T1 or T2. Standing in two lines — one for pasta, one for pizza — can easily eat 20–30 minutes at peak times around 12:00–14:00 and 18:00–20:00. Many travelers stick to a single station, usually pasta, to keep things predictable and stay within a set time window.

Complaints focus on the card system and queuing: if you misplace the chip, you’ll have an awkward chat at the till, and waiting at multiple stations can feel stressful when your 16:35 flight from T2 is creeping closer. Some reviewers also say the pasta can taste more like canteen food than the better downtown Vapiano branches. If you go, keep it simple: one pasta or one pizza, one drink, pay, then head to security with at least 30 minutes in hand.

Tip: Set an alarm for 45 minutes before departure and leave Vapiano when it rings, even if you’re still tempted by the pizza line.
