Airbräu

$$$$

House-brewed Helles in the plaza between Terminals 1 and 2

Airbräu sits in the open-air Munich Airport Center between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, landside, so you can walk over before security from either side. It’s a real Bavarian brewery, not just a tap handle deal: they brew their own Helles and Weissbier on site and pour them by the Maß. Expect most mains in the €15–€25 range, solidly in the mid-price bracket for the airport.

The outdoor beer garden spills into the central plaza, right next to the Edeka supermarket, and stays busy on sunny days. Regulars go straight for a Maß of the house Helles and classic dishes like Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), sausages with sauerkraut, and schnitzel. Portions are big enough that two people can comfortably split one main and a starter, which keeps the tab closer to city pricing instead of typical airport markups.

Hours vary a bit by season, but Airbräu typically opens by late morning and serves into the evening, giving you options for an early lunch beer or a late layover dinner. Because it’s landside, you must leave enough time to walk back to Terminal 1 or 2 and clear security; assume at least 30–40 minutes buffer for Schengen flights and more if you’re heading long-haul. Service inside is faster than outside when the garden is packed.

Watch out for slow service on warm weekend afternoons when every table in the plaza is full; Reddit and Google reviews mention long waits once the garden hits capacity. The open design also means some cigarette smoke drifts across the outdoor area. Prices run a few euros higher than many Munich city beer gardens, but still under what you’ll pay at several airside spots in T1 or T2 for worse beer.

  • Tip: Land at MUC, hit the Edeka for snacks, then grab a Maß of Helles at Airbräu and share a pork dish; set an alarm 60 minutes before boarding so the plaza setting doesn’t make you forget you’re still flying.
