Big Mac in Terminal 1 when nothing else sounds good

In Munich Airport’s Terminal 1, this McDonald’s is the $-tier safety net for short layovers and picky eaters. You know the drill: Big Mac, McChicken, Filet-O-Fish, fries, and McNuggets, plus the usual Coke, Fanta, and coffee lineup. Prices sit a bit above downtown Munich stores, but still on the low end for MUC, with basic burgers often under €5 and combo meals usually under €10.

It sits in Terminal 1, so handy for airlines using T1 like Condor and many leisure carriers, but less useful if you’re over in Terminal 2 with Lufthansa and Star Alliance. This is airside in T1, so you need a boarding pass and cleared security to reach it; don’t plan on walking over from T2 without re-clearing. Opening hours shift, but it typically runs from early morning to late evening, covering most departures out of T1.

Standard play here: order at the self-service kiosks to skip the main counter line, then keep an eye on the overhead screens for your order number. Coffee is McCafé style, with espresso drinks noticeably cheaper than nearby sit-down cafés in T1. For a quick takeaway breakfast before a 07:00 departure, an Egg McMuffin-style sandwich and coffee comes in well under €8 and lands in under 10 minutes, even when the gate area feels busy.

Portions and taste track with German McDonald’s rather than US locations, so fries are usually hot and less salty, and items like the McRib or seasonal burgers appear on rotation in Terminal 1 just like in town. Seating around the counter can fill up around the 10:00–12:00 and 17:00–19:00 banks of holiday flights, so count on eating at your gate if your boarding pass shows a tight 30–40 minute window.

Tip: if your flight leaves from a remote stand in Terminal 1 and boarding starts 40 minutes before departure, grab your food first, then head straight to the bus gate so you’re not stuck with a cooling burger in the queue.
