By mid-Concourse in Terminal 1, Open Book breaks up the chain-store blur
Open Book sits in Terminal 1 at Minneapolis–Saint Paul, a few minutes’ walk from most F and G gates, and feels more like an indie neighborhood bookstore than airport filler. You get new releases, paperbacks, regional Minnesota titles, and the usual travel standbys in one small footprint. Pricing tracks standard airport markups, so expect a paperback that’s $18 downtown to hit around $20 here.
Hours generally mirror daytime flight banks in Terminal 1, roughly early morning through late evening, but it’s safest to assume something like 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on normal days. You pay normal airport prices on magazines, kids’ books, and giftable hardcovers that lean heavy on local authors and Great Lakes themes. The shop is post-security, so you can duck in after clearing the main North or South checkpoints without adding extra walking landside.
Selection focuses on books first, then magazines and a small rack of travel accessories: neck pillows, chargers, basic headphones, and a few $5–$10 grab-and-go items near the register. You’ll see some last-minute souvenirs with “Minnesota” or “MSP” printed on them, but this isn’t a full-on gift shop like the ones closer to Concourse C. If you want something to actually read on a three-hour leg, this beats grabbing a random bestseller off a newsstand wall.
Figure five minutes to browse if you know your author, 10–15 if you’re grazing. Don’t count on specialty genres or deep backlist; this is about current titles and quick picks. Tip: if your gate is in G, swing through Open Book on the way out from the tram rather than backtracking later when boarding starts.
