Uber-style ride-hail isn’t a mainstream option at MRU right now

Most MRU airport threads about getting to Port Louis (about 48 km) or Grand Baie (around 70 km) mention taxis, private drivers, buses, or resort coaches, not app-based ride-hail. The “Ride-Hail Pickup Zone” is more of a concept than a clearly used lane today, and you won’t see a line of Ubers waiting outside T1. If an app ever launches at MRU, expect pickup to happen outside the single passenger terminal, near the same forecourt where the official taxi rank sits.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International (T1 only) has one main arrivals curb, with the official taxi line just outside after customs and baggage claim. Current Reddit and Facebook threads from 2022–2024 show zero consistent reports of riders calling Uber, Bolt, or similar from that curb. If you try an app that operates elsewhere on the island, plan to message your driver exact instructions like “Arrivals level, in front of Door 3” and give them your flight number and ETA.

MRU to Port Louis by taxi usually runs around 1,500–2,000 MUR, and to Grand Baie around 2,000–2,500 MUR, depending on time of day and haggling. Without clear app coverage, you can’t reliably compare live ride-hail pricing against these local taxi rates at the airport itself. If you’re price-sensitive, screenshot taxi quotes you get from your hotel or a pre-booked driver and then see if any in-island app you use later undercuts those numbers for the return leg.

Security at T1 is straightforward, and arrivals to curb can be under 15 minutes once you have bags, but drivers coming in from Mahebourg (about 10–15 minutes away) or Port Louis (45–60 minutes away) still fight N2 traffic. If you ever manage to get a ride-hail driver to accept an airport pickup, add at least 20 extra minutes to whatever ETA the app shows and keep roaming data active to handle last-minute changes.

Practical tip: Until a major app publicly confirms airport coverage with a marked Ride-Hail Pickup Zone at T1, treat MRU as a taxi or pre-booked car airport and only test ride-hail for low-risk segments like a midday return from Port Louis when you’re not racing a 10:00 flight.
