T1’s Food Court sits landside before security at MRU
On the public side of Terminal 1, the Food Court sits just above the main check-in hall, so you can eat here even if you’re not flying. It’s the main cluster of outlets at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, with several counters sharing one open seating area of mostly four-top tables. Expect a basic mall-style setup rather than table service.
Most counters run roughly from 05:00 until the last evening departures around 22:00, in line with MRU’s flight banks. You’ll find quick snacks, simple hot meals, and drinks at prices that are higher than outside the airport but typical for Mauritius’ only international terminal. Think counter orders in the MUR 200–500 bracket for a filling plate, plus bottled water, soft drinks, and basic coffee.
Post-security options inside T1 thin out quickly, so using the Food Court first often makes sense if you have more than 60 minutes before check-in closes. Seating is open to everyone, and cleaning staff cycle through fairly often, though during the morning Europe departures it can be hard to find more than two seats together. Power outlets are scarce, so charge your phone at the landside seating banks near check-in Row B before coming up.
Menus rotate a bit by tenant, but you can usually find at least one counter with rice or noodle plates, one with more Western-style burgers or sandwiches, plus pastry cases with croissants and local snacks. Vegetarian choices exist but stay basic: cheese sandwiches, salads, and plain pasta or rice; ask to skip meat on some dishes and they’ll normally accommodate. Expect fridge-cold soft drinks, but coffee can be hit-or-miss depending on the machine that day.
Practical tip: clear check-in and immigration first, then return landside to the Food Court only if queues are short; at busy times, build at least 30 minutes just for formalities in T1.
