Daily 7:00–22:00 rentals right outside MGA’s Main Terminal

Toyota Rent a Car sits just outside the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) Main Terminal, across the road from arrivals, and usually opens from around 7:00 until 22:00 daily. You walk out of customs, cross the small access road, and the counter is in the row of agencies along the front of the airport.

This is a standard car rental setup, not a shuttle: cars are parked in the lot directly in front of the Main Terminal, so pickup and drop-off both happen within a 2–3 minute walk of the arrivals door. Compared to off-airport agencies along Carretera Norte, that saves you an extra 15–20 minutes of transit each way.

Fleet is mostly compact and mid-size Toyota sedans and small SUVs, with the occasional Hilux or similar pickup; automatic transmission is common, but a few manuals still show up. Expect daily base rates that can start around US$30–40 for a compact, with 4×4 or larger SUVs often landing in the US$60–80 range depending on season and demand.

Insurance is the big cost swing: collision damage and third-party coverage can add US$15–25 per day, and some agents at MGA will pre-fill quotes with the full package. If you rely on a credit card’s CDW, bring printed benefit terms in Spanish or English and budget an extra 10–15 minutes at the counter to discuss declining coverage.

Fuel policy is usually full-to-full, and there’s a gas station on Carretera Norte less than 2 km from the airport toward Managua, which is where most renters top up before returning. Odometer readings and fuel level are noted at pickup; take 5 extra minutes to walk around the car and photograph every dent and scratch before you sign.

For arrival timing, you clear immigration and customs first, then reach the public arrivals hall; from wheels down to the Toyota counter can be anywhere from 25 to 60 minutes depending on lines. If your flight lands after 21:00, email or call ahead to confirm that staff will wait for your arrival and note your airline and flight number.

Step-by-step: renting from Toyota Rent a Car at MGA

  • 1. Land at MGA, clear immigration, collect bags, and pass customs; expect 25–60 minutes from gate to arrivals.
  • 2. Exit into the public arrivals hall, walk straight out the main doors, and cross the small access road in front of the Main Terminal.
  • 3. Find the Toyota Rent a Car office in the line of agencies; have your passport, driver’s license, and credit card ready on the counter.
  • 4. Discuss insurance options clearly, review the printed contract, confirm kilometer limits (if any), and double-check the quoted daily rate in US dollars or córdobas before signing.
  • 5. Walk with the agent to the parking lot in front of the terminal, inspect the car, photograph all sides, the fuel gauge, and the odometer, then receive the keys.
  • 6. On return, refill at the gas station on Carretera Norte within 2 km of the airport, then drive back to the same front lot and hand the keys to the Toyota staff.
  • 7. Have the agent note fuel level and any new damage on the checkout form, keep your final receipt, and walk 2–3 minutes back into the Main Terminal for check-in.

One practical tip: schedule pickup for at least 45 minutes after scheduled landing, so if your flight is on time you’re not rushed, and if it’s late the staff still expects you the same evening.
