Bus 266 stops on Carretera Norte about 300–400 meters outside MGA

City bus Ruta 266 runs along Carretera Norte, the main road in front of Augusto C. Sandino International Airport’s Main Terminal. The bus does not enter airport property. You walk roughly 5 minutes / 300–400 meters from the terminal exit to the roadside stop. This is a basic local bus, not an airport shuttle.

Expect to pay around C$3–C$5 córdobas (about US$0.10–$0.15) per ride on Ruta 266, paid in cash directly to the driver or fare collector. No cards, no apps, no contactless options. You board through the front door and usually pay immediately after stepping on. Keep small bills and coins; drivers rarely break C$100 notes.

Ruta 266 generally runs from early morning, around 5:00–6:00, until early evening, roughly 19:00–20:00, but there is no official timetable posted at the airport. Frequency is irregular: at busy times you might wait 5–10 minutes, off-peak it can stretch closer to 20 minutes. If it is dark after 19:00, most visitors switch to taxis or ride-hail for safety and predictability.

This route links the airport corridor on Carretera Norte with central Managua areas, typically heading toward bus hubs and markets in the city. Ride times into town can run from about 20 minutes in light traffic to 40–45 minutes in rush hour. Buses stop frequently, often every few blocks, so average speed stays low. There is no luggage area; bags go on your lap or at your feet.

Vehicles are basic, usually older diesel buses with open windows and no air-conditioning, and they can get crowded during morning and late-afternoon peaks. Expect standing room only if you board between about 7:00–9:00 or 16:00–18:00. Keep your valuables zipped and in front of you; local riders do the same. No onboard announcements, so watch for your stop or track it on an offline map.

To reach Ruta 266 from arrivals, walk out of the Main Terminal, follow the access road toward Carretera Norte, then turn left and continue about 300–400 meters until you see other buses stopping along the curb. Ask for “Ruta dos sesenta y seis al centro” and confirm with the driver. If you land after dark or with more than one large suitcase, use a taxi for this leg and save Ruta 266 for daytime local trips.
