DiDi, Ola and Bolt often undercut Uber on MEL-CBD runs

On off-peak runs into the CBD, you’ll sometimes see these apps come in $5–$15 cheaper than UberX for the same 23–30 km trip.

All rideshare pickups sit in the signed “Rideshare Pick-up” zones outside T2 and T3, plus a clearly marked area near T4. From the baggage carousels in T2, you’re usually 5–7 minutes’ walk to the pickup kerb, depending on crowds. The apps pin the pickup as “Melbourne Airport Rideshare Zone” and give a bay letter/number; just match the bay in the app to the pole signs.

Most runs into the CBD land in the $45–$70 bracket across DiDi, Ola and Bolt, depending on time of day, traffic on the M2/Tullamarine Freeway, and surge. That $4.82 airport fee is baked into the quote on all three apps. Peak times hit hardest around 7:00–9:00 in the morning and again from about 16:30–19:00, especially on Friday, so it’s worth checking all apps before you commit.

Pickup rules are simple: you have to be kerbside before most DiDi/Ola/Bolt drivers start the trip, and many will wait no more than 5 minutes before they cancel to avoid airport loops. From T4 domestic baggage claim, follow the green “Rideshare” signs, then cross at the first pedestrian crossing; you’ll see numbered bays from 1 to around 15. Screenshot the bay number in your app if your mobile data wobbles.

If you’re price-driven, open at least two apps and compare after bags hit the carousel; Melbourne Airport’s free Wi‑Fi runs for 30–60 minutes, which is enough to check fares and book. One simple move: wait until you’re through customs in T2 before requesting; calling too early adds 10–15 minutes of driver waiting and raises the odds of a cancellation fee.
