T1

T1’s Tortuga counter is where the rum cakes live

This Tortuga in Terminal 1 sits airside near the main T1 departures retail strip, handy if your flight boards from gates in the low 20s. It runs through most flight banks, generally opening by 8:00 and staying open into the early evening, matching the big North American departures. You’re looking at a small food and beverage setup that leans hard into packaged goodies more than sit-down dining.

Signature Tortuga rum cakes are the main draw here, with the classic golden original and chocolate versions usually stacked in 4-ounce, 16-ounce, and gift-tin sizes. Pricing is airport-level: the small 4-ounce cakes generally sit in the single digits in USD, while larger tins creep into the teens. Staff are used to carry-on questions and will confirm that sealed cakes travel fine in overhead bins and under-seat bags.

Besides cakes, Tortuga T1 also sells branded rum, candies, and a few grab-and-go snack items you can eat at the gate. Anything liquid, including the Tortuga rum bottles, has to fit your airline’s carry-on rules and security liquid limits, so time this stop after security in T1. If your bag is already at 7–8 kg for a low-cost carrier, think twice before loading up with multiple 16-ounce tins.

One practical tip: buy on your way to the gate, not during an early security dash. Build a 10–15 minute buffer before boarding in T1, hit Tortuga once your gate is posted, and keep the receipt handy in case you need to show proof of purchase at customs back home.
