Amber Essence

By Gate 8 in T1, Amber Essence leans hard into Jamaica-made goods.

Amber Essence sits airside in Terminal 1 at Sangster (MBJ), near Gate 8, and focuses on local crafts, jewelry, and beauty items. Shelves skew heavily Jamaican: think Blue Mountain coffee gift packs, Rum Cream miniatures under 10 USD, carved wood pieces, and amber-style accessories. It reads more like a souvenir shop than a generic duty free, but without the liquor megastore vibe.

Most small items land in the 8–25 USD range, with higher-ticket art, jewelry, and gift sets pushing up toward 60–80 USD. You’ll see plenty of “last-minute souvenir” standards: keychains, shot glasses, T-shirts with Montego Bay prints, and magnet sets. Staff often bundle coffee, sauces, and sweets into pre-made gift packs so you can grab one box and be done in under five minutes.

Hours generally track international departures, opening around the first outbound bank in the morning and staying open until the last flights, often past 8:00 pm. That means you can walk over after security in T1 without stressing a mid-day lull. Card payments are standard here, and US dollars are accepted, but expect change in Jamaican dollars if your bill is small.

If you want something packable, look at the smaller coffee bags (typically 4–8 oz), travel-sized body oils, and individually wrapped local candies. Skip heavy glass bottles if your carry-on is already tight; there are plenty of boxed or soft-packed options that ride better in a backpack. Quick tip: do a fast lap first, then grab one or two mid-priced gifts so you don’t burn 30 minutes comparing nearly identical T-shirts.
