Gate-side in T3, La Pausa is the default sit‑down option for MAD’s older Schengen terminal.
La Pausa sits airside in Terminal T3, so you’re already through security when you see it. It runs roughly standard airport hours, generally opening around the first morning departures and staying open until the last evening flights in T3. Expect a full-service café-bar setup with tables plus counter seating, useful if your flight boards from a nearby T3 gate and you want to keep an eye on the screens.
Menu pricing lands in mid-range airport territory: a basic coffee can sit around €2–3, soft drinks around €3, and simple sandwiches or baguettes closer to €6–8. Hot mains, when available, usually creep into the €10–15 range. It’s the sort of place where two people grabbing a sandwich and a drink each will easily hit €25–30. There is table service, but you still pay at the counter before heading out to your T3 gate.
Food is standard Spanish airport fare: expect tortilla, mixed bocadillos, some pastries, and pre-prepared salads rather than made-to-order restaurant cooking. Coffee and a slice of tortilla make a decent quick stop under €7, while a pastry and juice are fine if you’re rushing to a Schengen departure from one of the closer T3 gates. If you want more elaborate tapas or proper plates, you’ll usually do better walking toward the larger offerings in T1 or T2 before passport control.
Alcohol is available, with draft beer and simple mixed drinks that line up with typical MAD airport pricing, often €4–6 for a beer depending on size. That works if you have 45–60 minutes before boarding and don’t want to wander away from your T3 gate cluster. Don’t expect anything like a curated wine list; think house red or white by the glass and move on.
Practical tip: if your boarding pass shows a T3 Schengen gate, eat at La Pausa after security rather than back in landside T2/T3, so you’re already in the right terminal when your gate posts.
