T4’s Food Market Mercado de San Miguel sits landside near check-in
This spot sits in Madrid–Barajas Terminal T4, before security, so it works best if you’re early for a flight or waiting on arrivals. Think food-court version of the city’s famous Mercado de San Miguel: several counters under one roof, each doing something different, from ham to pastries. Prices run airport-high but not shocking for MAD; plan around €10–€18 per person for a light meal with a drink.
You’ll see the usual Spanish staples first: tortilla, croquetas, and bocadillos with jamón. A basic bocadillo de jamón comes in around €6–€8, while mixed tapas plates creep closer to €15. Coffee and pastries sit at the front counters; a café con leche usually hits the €2–€3 range, with croissants and napolitana pastries in the €2–€4 slot. Portions lean medium, so order two items if you’re actually hungry before a long-haul.
There’s wine, vermut, and beer on tap, with small glasses of Rioja or Ribera typically around €4–€5. Draft beers land in the €3–€5 band, cheaper than many airside bars in T4S. If you’re on a quick layover and still need to clear security, this is not the place for a three-round wine session; one drink and a tapa is the smarter move.
Seating is shared and open in the middle of the market area, with bar stools and a few high tables. At peak times around 08:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 it can feel cramped, and you might end up standing with your plate. Lines at the busier counters easily hit 10–15 minutes during those banks of Iberia departures from T4.
Tip: if your flight leaves from T4S, eat here at Mercado de San Miguel before taking the underground train over; once you ride to T4S, coming back for food will cost at least 20–25 minutes of walking and waiting each way.
