Eat

T1

Next to T1 security, Eat is the quickest hot meal

Right in Madrid–Barajas Terminal T1, Eat sits past security on the main departures concourse, so you can grab food after clearing passport checks instead of backtracking. Signage just says “Eat,” and it operates as a basic fast-food spot rather than a full restaurant. Seating is limited and close to the walkway, so expect more of a counter-service feel than a quiet sit-down meal.

Prices run in the mid-airport range: around €7–€9 for a burger or sandwich, another €3–€4 for fries, and roughly €2.50–€3 for bottled soft drinks. Coffee-based drinks usually land near €2 for an espresso and €2.50–€3 for cappuccino. Portions skew on the smaller side, so budget for a full combo if you’re actually hungry, especially before a longer flight from T1’s non‑Schengen gates.

The menu focuses on simple fast food: burgers, sandwiches, pastries, and grab‑and‑go items you can carry to a gate in T1’s A and B zones. Expect pre‑made sandwiches in refrigerated cases, basic salads, and wrapped pastries alongside the hot items on the board. If you have under 25 minutes to boarding, stick to pre‑packaged options so you’re not waiting on the grill when your flight from gate B26 or nearby starts boarding.

Service can slow down when multiple flights to European holiday spots leave within the same 30‑minute window, especially during the 07:00–09:00 and 18:00–21:00 peaks. There’s no table service, so you order, wait at the counter, then carry your tray. Staff usually handle Spanish and basic English; having your order ready and holding a credit card speeds things up more than paying cash.

Tip: if your T1 layover runs short, grab a bottled drink and a cold sandwich here, then eat at the gate so you can keep eyes on your boarding queue and the T1 departure screens.
