Card billing and familiar Uber app work smoothly at Chennai MAA

Uber runs at Chennai International Airport (MAA) from all terminals T1, T2 and T4, and rides bill straight to the card in your existing account. If you already use Uber in your home country, you can land, switch on data, and request a car without dealing in cash or downloading a local taxi app.

Pickup points sit outside each terminal: T1 (domestic) and T4 (international) share the older complex on GST Road, while T2 is the newer international terminal on the other side of the airfield. After you exit baggage claim, follow signs for "Car / Taxi" and walk 3–6 minutes to the general pickup lanes where your driver can pull in.

A typical Uber Go from T4 to T. Nagar or Nungambakkam runs around ₹350–₹600 in normal traffic, with peak evening or rain pushing that past ₹800. A run into IT corridors like OMR or Sholinganallur usually falls in the ₹600–₹1,000 band, depending on time of day and live surge. You see the fare estimate in-app before confirming, which helps compare against the government prepaid taxi counters inside arrivals.

MAA’s curfew-free schedule means flights land all night, and you can usually find Uber cars on the map at 01:00 or 03:00 as long as your phone has data. From T2 international arrivals to the main exit, expect 10–20 minutes for immigration and another 10–15 minutes for bags in off-peak hours, so set your pickup request only after you walk past customs to avoid driver waiting fees.

Uber category choice matters: Uber Go handles 2 adults with 2 medium suitcases, while larger groups with 3–4 checked bags should tap an XL-type option if shown. The app shows driver plate number and car model, so cross-check TN registration plates in the pickup lane; there can be 10–20 similar-looking sedans queuing at busy evening banks around 20:00–23:00.

Practical tip: buy or activate mobile data before leaving the terminal; an eSIM from providers like Airtel or Jio at T4/T2 arrivals, or airport Wi‑Fi plus an India data pack, makes the 5–10 minute Uber booking and driver coordination much less painful.
