T2

Near the T2 check-in zone, Pothys brings city-style saree shopping airside

Pothys in Chennai Airport’s T2 terminal feels like a compressed version of their city stores, with stacked shelves of silk and cotton sarees you can browse while waiting for a late-night departure. It sits landside in the international building, so you can stop in before heading to security and immigration. If you forgot a gift in town, this is one of the few places in MAA where you can grab something that actually looks like it came from Tamil Nadu.

You’ll see Kanchipuram-style silks on one side and lighter daily-wear sarees and salwar sets on the other, plus some ready-made kurtas and kids’ outfits. Prices run higher than Pondy Bazaar or T. Nagar, but still manageable for airport retail: expect simple cotton pieces around ₹1,000–₹1,500 and more ornate silk options well into the ₹5,000+ range. Staff generally quote fixed prices, so this is a quick in-and-out buy, not a bargaining session.

Jewellery counters stock imitation gold, bangles, and hair accessories that match the sarees, handy if your checked bag already crossed 23 kg and you can’t add more heavy fabric. The T2 shop keeps hours that track the international bank, usually open from early morning departures around 4:00 until the last long-haul flights after midnight. Tip: take photos of blouse measurements or matching pieces from home before you leave for MAA; it makes picking a last-minute saree at Pothys much faster.
