Avenue Duty Free

T2

T2’s main duty free option sits just past security

Avenue Duty Free in Terminal T2 is your first big shop after security, before most of the international gates. It’s standard walk-through style, so you pretty much pass it on the way to boarding. This is the spot for last-minute gifts, bigger liquor bottles, and cosmetics before long-haul flights out of Chennai.

Duty free spirits here usually price better than city retail once you factor in GST, especially on 1L international labels. Tobacco and perfume sections take up most of the floor, with smaller zones for chocolates and travel gadgets. Stock skews toward the big global brands rather than niche names, so you’ll likely find your usual whisky or fragrance, but not rare bottles.

Because it’s in T2’s international zone, Avenue Duty Free only serves passengers already checked in and past security. You pay in INR, and they usually accept major cards plus UPI. Expect standard airport markup on chocolates and souvenirs, but you can catch promo bundles on liquor if you actually read the shelf tags instead of grabbing the first bottle.

Lines at the cash counters spike 45–25 minutes before departure, especially when multiple widebodies out of T2 board close together. To avoid getting stuck in a payment queue while your gate starts final call, walk the shop when you first reach departures, note what you want, and swing back to pay at least 45 minutes before scheduled boarding time.
