Upper Crust

Gate-side carbs in Terminal 1

By the time you reach Terminal 1 at Lyon Saint-Exupéry, Upper Crust is usually the easiest grab-and-go option in sight. It’s the standard European baguette chain: long display counter, pre-made sandwiches, a few pastries, bottled drinks, and coffee pulled on an automatic machine. Expect to pay roughly €6–€8 for a filled baguette and around €3 for a coffee or soft drink.

Upper Crust sits airside in Terminal 1, so it’s useful after you clear security but before you commit to a gate. Typical offerings include ham-and-cheese baguettes, chicken sandwiches, and veggie options, plus croissants and pain au chocolat in the morning. Most orders are handed over in under 5 minutes unless two flights empty out at once.

Portions run standard chain size: one full baguette is usually enough for a light meal on a short hop to Paris or Amsterdam, but you may want a pastry on the side if you’re heading out on a 2–3 hour flight. Drinks come mainly in 500 ml bottles or 330 ml cans, and you’ll usually find at least one sugar-free soda in the fridge.

There’s limited counter seating directly by the stand, and it fills fast during the 06:00–09:00 bank of departures from Terminal 1. Most people just carry food to the gate areas near Schengen departures, where power outlets are hit-or-miss and you may end up on the floor if you’re leaving around 07:30.

Payment is straightforward: contactless cards and mobile payments are widely accepted, and prices are clearly printed on overhead boards in euros. One practical tip: if you want anything warm, ask them to heat the sandwich when you order; they won’t automatically offer, and during busy times you don’t want to double back and re-queue with 20 minutes left before boarding.
